Hannah Arendt & theory applied to the climate change and human relations with the natural environment

Research question: how can Hannah Arendt's theories of alienation and Vita Activa be applied to the human relationship with the natural environment and promote climate action?

Introduction: 300

Topic Relevance and personal interest: My interest in this topic stems from the climate crisis course which I found very fascinating earlier this year. What stood out to me most in the course is the concept of climate grief and how it is comparable to ignorance with respect to a lack of effective climate action. When writing the second assignment, my
focus on Arendt labor, power action concept made me realise that it is increasingly applicable to the concept of the human relationship with nature and can be used as a tool to investigate motivating factors towards climate action. I laso seek to investigate how Arendt’s writing can facilitate understanding of how to promote political action in a
way that empowers the environmentalist movement.

Paragraph 1 : 350

Arendt’s ideas about world alienation to analyze human relations to nature green ethics proposals:

What is climate grief. What is alienation and how has it come into existence? What is alinaetion founded on and how does the presentation of environmental facts/statistics contribute to alienation? Arendt link to political freedom and aliention; ‘twofold flight from the earth into the universe and from the world into the self’ (1989, pp. 6, 254).

Sum up the key points made in previous paragraphs and suggest application of the understanding created. Specifically suggest how the understanding created throughout the essay can be used to engage and encourage climate action and environmentalism as well as reduce feelings if isolation anf climate anxiety.
