- demonstrate a critical awareness of own knowledge and skills about the HR profession through reflective practice.
After completing this module, you will be able to –
- identify and evaluate HRM and organizational issues through the application of appropriately structured analytical approaches;
- utilize knowledge, understanding, and skills through the application of appropriate methods to critically analyze evidence and provide appropriate alternatives and/or recommendations;
- demonstrate an ability to undertake independent study at the undergraduate level; manage their learning time and pursue continuous professional development;
- perform as a self-managing individual and a collaborative member of working groups;
- communicate ideas to others; and
- demonstrate critical and reflexive thinking and ability to engage with personal development planning.
You need to submit a portfolio of evidence that captures the learning outcomes of the module by addressing the issues covered in each module theme. The portfolio should be approximately 4,000 words (excluding appendices) and the Harvard referencing system should be used throughout the portfolio.
You need to provide evidence about the following five parts –
Foundations of professional knowledge and practice in HRM (session 1)
- Explain and assess the concept of the ‘thinking performer’ in the HR function. Use examples to support your answer
- Evaluate the role of CPD and reflective learning in professional practice. Use examples of your learning log and PDP to support your answer
Ethics, corporate social responsibility and HRM (session 2)

- Explain the role of ethics and corporate social responsibility in HRM. Use examples to support your answer
HRM and the business environment in different contexts (session 3)
- Conduct a PEST analysis for a sector or organization of your choice and identify the implications for managing human resources
HRM as a profession (session 4 and 5)
- Explain the role of the HR function and, by reflecting on various HRM activities that you were taught in the course, identify the challenges involved for an HR professional in pursuing these activities
Skills, graduates and the HR professional (sessions 4 and 5)
- Reflect on each of the HRM modules that you have studied up to date and identify the skills that you have developed in these modules. Assess the appropriateness of these skills about the HR profession and identify strengths and weaknesses, as well as potential strategies to improve your skills
