Discuss the role and function of mental health services and role of the nurse in promoting recovery within a multi-agency environment, including the impact of legislation and policy on practice.
Plan, deliver and contribute to safe and effective care , examining your impact on service users and the care you provide, taking into account feedback that you have received from service users, carers and members of multi-agencies, in order to enable you to develop a critical understanding of your practice.
What am I required to do in this assignment?
1. Digital narrative (15 mins) (100%)
You will be required to create a digital account of a person’s mental healthcare journey towards recovery in which you demonstrate the planning, delivering and coordination of person’s care. This must include a detailed discussion of how relevant policies and legislation influenced the care provided and an evaluation of your own contribution to the person’s care (15 minutes).
For this assessment, you are required to present a professional narrative based on your own experience in placement which reflects the unit learning outcomes within this assessment brief.
Your narrative will be presented digitally using a choice of technology that you feel comfortable with. For example, you may choose to submit your narrative as a video or audio recording.

What do I need to do to pass? (Threshold Expectations from UIF)
In order to pass Assessment 1 you will need to:
- Create a digital account of a person’s healthcare journey contexualising the case and setting of the healthcare journey
- Identify an appropriate person from practice – maintaining confidentiality at all times
- Describe the case utilising an evidence-based explanation of the person’s condition, the impact it had on them, their health needs and the recovery model
- Justify and clinically reason the care you planned, how it was coordinated and delivered, referring to any nursing theories, processes or models
- Reference and discuss relevant policies and legislation referred to and detailed in the account
- Appraise, your own role and your influence on care

This assessment will demonstrate your learning from your experiences of working with Service Users during their recovery. In order to be successful in this assessment you will need to submit your digital narrative before the deadline and demonstrate your learning in relation to the outcomes of this unit. Please note, your narrative must have a spoken element throughout.
When producing your digital narrative you are expected to consider the following:
- The relevance of the narrative: does it provide evidence of effective learning in a structured manner whilst also addressing the appropriate learning outcomes?
- Emotional impact of the narrative: has this promoted your personal engagement with practice and has your learning been made clear?
- Structure and Planning: How does the narrative flow? Was it clearly well organised and was the delivery appropriately paced?
- Creativity: is there evidence of originality?
- Professional and academic integrity: Is the work evidence based? Are citations accurate, is respect for others maintained? Has patient, staff and organizational confidentiality must be maintained at all times?
- Academic understanding: have you applied the relevant theories and models to support your work? Have you analysed and given a feasible explanation of the experience?
- Use of media: have you used appropriate and varied sources of media?
