The safety of employees, clients, and other people in the workplace is always the utmost concern for any business regardless of its operations. Proper safety rules have to be put in place since even a slight mistake can have devastating consequences. Therefore, safety management systems (SMS) was designed to manage various safety elements and create a secure environment for every individual involved. Some of the elements include planning, organization evaluation, policy, and more (Roux, 2014).
I chose the element, evaluation for the reason that it helps to define how safety performance is measured and graded. Evaluation tools are essential as they help create methods and platforms to report risk incidents and investigate the cause and results of incidents (Roux, 2014). At many times, evaluation tools are valuable since they can be used under the existing policies and practices to measure an organization’s overall performance and help determine an effective strategy to move the business forward. With evaluation, people in leadership in a company can review current steps to create a safe workplace and review actionable information regarding the methods, which can even be improved further.
Usually, we use an evaluation tool in the workplace to review the performance of employees. The element has been a useful resource primarily when we conduct reviews regarding the current crisis (Roux, 2014). The element has also been an invaluable tool in accident management procedures since it has scale ratings, which help to indicate strengths and weaknesses in strategic areas. Evaluation has helped our business meet legal obligations for employee safety and take further steps to create a secure working environment for everyone.
