The Positive Effects
There are many positive impacts of the social networking interface in the modern world. Let us not be the pessimist here who has no work but criticisms.
Keeping in touch with family and friends- A social networking platform is a great way to keep in touch with your family and friends that live far away. With instant messaging and even video chat, a social networking platform is a perfect environment to stay connected. With the status updates, photos, and profile information, it can keep you up to date on the happenings of all of your close ones.
Recently a strange story regarding this case has appeared in the newspaper. A family from Texas had lost a family relict in the flood. The relict bore a lot of memories from the family desk. They were grieving at the loss of this exquisite stuff from the family booth suddenly when they saw that a family has uploaded the photo of the same stuff over a social networking site. They were elated. They immediately communicated with the family and the people were very happy in sharing the table. This family had found the table after the waters had descended. This clearly proves that bit was the sake presence of the social networking site that made this sweet reunion possible.
There are many people who are living alone in desolate places. There are even more people who are living out and without their own families in foreign countries. These people can communicate with each other through social networks. Thus the social network is finding a platform the shear of the views and the photos and thus they are acting as the friend buffer on the imaginary platform.
Making new friends- A social networking platform makes meeting new people extremely easy due to the fact that it allows you to add up to thousands of friends, and acts as a social melting pot of the internet. If you comment on a friend’s status, and one of their friend’s comments on it, maybe you two will strike up your own conversation. This can lead to a great friendship down the road. Most people find it a lot easier to start a conversation with someone over A social networking platform than in real life, so a lot of high-school relationships tend to start there. It’s as simple as a “You should text me sometime.”
Lisa ray of Canada needed blood instantly. Her blood group was rather of a rare kind. There was no suited donor to donate blood and save the life of this beautiful girl. She did a thing. She asked her friends to upload her picture and the requirement and ask for a blood group similar to her for respite from pain. The miracles and happened and a boy from Montreal replied! They resolved soon and the blood was transfused to the girl, from the boy’s body. Now both of them are married to each other and they are leading a good life. The social network had made this possible. The incidents date in 2014 (The independent, 2014).
Another incident dates back at 2015 march. A bereaved mother who had lost her elder son at the age of 8 years in a car accident had spun the t-shirts of the dear boy and had made a blanket out of the same as a relict. While travelling she misplaced the same. It was through a social networking site that she got the object back to herself.
Expressing yourself- A social networking platform makes expressing yourself very simple with status updates. Between showings off your favourite song lyrics, to posting pictures of your new outfit, a social networking platform is the most common way that people express themselves these days. It is a lot harder to feel embarrassment over the internet than in person, so people find it easier to “vent” their feelings on a social networking platform.
The Negative Effects
Cyber-bullying- there are all the chances where one can make any profile as per the choice of him or her. There are the fake profiles created and people use these to bully the others.
This is a very bad side of social networking. There are some assorted factors as well. Often it is seen that the boyfriend and the girlfriend are stacking on each other and suspecting them. Believing is the main symptom of love. The people use the fake Ids to stack. A social networking platform stalking doesn’t only apply to your ex. It can be for anyone.
The incident dates to 2012. Jane Austin was in love with Rick Simpson of England. Jane suspected Rick of loving Stacy. She thought Who is this Stacy Laure, and why is she constantly “liking” my lover’s social networking platform posts? She was tormented so much that one night she attacked her beloved and then it was known that Stacy is the foster sister of Rick. Everything by then was topsy turvy (The tribune, 2012).
Ruined relationships- the next problem that is aroused through social networks is the ruining of the relationships. This happens very unfortunately to the people. The social network is kind of a virtual interface. There basically no one is bound to anyone. Everyone is on top of the other. There are no so-called bonds and bindings. As per the psychologists, social networking denudes the bondage of human love and the beauty of the men women peers. Let us first discuss a case in a similar context.
A social networking platform is notorious for causing couples to break up. Let’s face it, no one wants to see their girlfriend/boyfriend telling other people that they look cute or liking their pictures, or instant messaging them constantly. It builds up jealousy, which causes quite a bit of tension in a relationship. The fact that many people try to hook up with others over A social networking platform while not realizing that these people are in a relationship doesn’t help the issue. Eli Pariser (2012) states that the cross-checking of the relational status over the social interfaces make the problems aggravated.
Wrongly revealing – the social network has another problem that is grave. The hackers are always ready to hack the network and vandalize the privacy of the common people. There are many cases where the person is wrongly projected uncovered through social networks through hackers. There are some cases where a person suicide (Miller, 2015).
This happened in India in the year 2014. A girl of 16 years was vandalized by some friends of the area. They uploaded stripped photos of the girl on the social network. The girl was absolutely stunned and taken aback. Out of the blue, the bolt was. In utter distress and dismay, she saw no way out of this crime but so she suicide. This was a very unfortunate happening for a girl who maybe had coloured dreams in her eyes (the Deccan Herald, 2014).
Edward Smith (2013) clarifies the importance and the graveness of this problem.
“Do you really want a potential employer to know about how drunk you got at last week’s kegger…or the interesting wild night that followed with the girl in the blue bikini? Peluchette and Karl (2010) found that 40% of users mention alcohol use on their A social networking platform page, and 20% mention sexual activities. While 89% of job seekers use social networking sites, 37% of potential employers do, as well—and are actively looking into their potential hires (Greenfield, 2012).
Addiction and Insecurity- the researchers of the modern world say that social networking can become a great addiction as well. They say that – Think society’s most common addictive substances are coffee, cigarettes, and alcohol? Think again. The DSM-V (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual) includes a new diagnosis that has stirred controversy: a series of items gauging Internet Addiction. Since then, A social networking platform addiction has gathered attention from both popular media and empirical journals, leading to the creation of a social networking platform addiction scale (Paddock, 2012). To explore the seriousness of this addiction, Hofmann and colleagues (2012) randomly texted participants over the course of a week to ask what they most desired at that particular moment. They found that among their participants, social media use was craved even more than tobacco and alcohol. A social networking platform is a cause for insecurities due to the fact that it makes people compare themselves to others. How can you not when all you see is pictures of your friends and acquaintances on your newsfeed? Paddock had prescribed a scale for the test of the level of the addiction. The scale is:
A social networking platform Addiction Scale
Stalker friendly- anyone can be stacked over the social networks. Very less information about a person is suitable to bully anyone or stack anyone. The full platform is virtual and there is nothing real. Thereby anyone can easily be disguised and judge others. this element of being the stalker friendly makes the social networks not so good a place to be dealt with.
The case can be staked from the new Virginia during the year 2013. A boy named Enid was made to be friendly with a boy name Zishan. They never knew each other and they shared common interests. Soon the friendship grew to be deep enough and the boys started sharing common photos. Unnoticed to the parents,
Enid was tracking weapons with the friend of his. Soon they were caught and jailed. The parents were at tears (The guardian, 2013).
Life is full of pros and cons. There are two sides to everything. Man is both the black and the white. The social networks give us the scope to open ourselves. This is the most modern application of technology. Thus avoiding any of the same would mean foolishness in the modern world. One must make sure that they use better things only and discard the wrong deeds. As per the psychologist James Thurber, A social networking interface and twitter and WhatsApp or Instagram give us the scope to open up. That does not mean opening up and discarding the conscious. Be aware and logical and enjoy the boon of science for eternity lest be dusted in the dungeons of misname and ill-fortunes.
