October 15, 2022The aim of this unit is to enable learners to develop understanding of the importance of working positively in partnership with others in health and social care.
Working in partnership is a key element of practice within health and social care. The concepts of power sharing, consultation and joint ways of working are essential for effective service provision.
Health and social care professionals need to understand the importance of promoting autonomy with individuals. They also need to be aware of their own roles and responsibilities and how they relate to others within the sector.
Learners will explore the nature of partnership on three levels.
- First they will examine partnerships with users of services that empower individuals to make informed decisions and encourage independence.
- Second they will consider partnerships between different professionals within health and social care and explore inter-agency working.
- Finally, they will investigate organisational partnerships and examines different ways of joint working at a strategic level.

This assignment addresses all aspects of LO1: Understand partnership philosophies and relationships in health and social care services (1.1, 1.2)
You work as a trainer for the Care Quality Commission. You are asked to visit staff in a care home for vulnerable adults with complex needs, who have recently failed an inspection. You must deliver an oral presentation to the staff,
focusing on partnerships and relationships in health and social care.
Guidance:
- Your presentation must be at least 5-7 minutes long.
- Your presentation must be presented individually and it is assessed so do not miss your time slot!
- Explain the key philosophies of working in partnership, and how these impact upon users of services, professional groups and health and social care organisations.
- You should evaluate partnership relationships within health and social care, highlighting the reasons that working in partnership can be positive for their organisation; and consider any potential drawbacks.
- Alongside delivering your presentation, you should hand in:
o A copy of your presentation slides

Guidance:

- You should analyse different models of partnership working across the health and social care (for example, unified models, coalition models), identifying key aspects of success and potential benefits/issues.
- You should provide a review of current legislation and organisational practices and policies for partnership working in health and social care.
- Explain how differences in working practices and policies can affect collaborative working.
- You should evaluate the possible outcomes of working in partnership, taking into account service users, service providers and organisations within health and social care.
- Provide an analysis of potential barriers that may prevent successful partnerships working.
- In doing this, you should also devise possible strategies that could improve the outcomes of partnership working in health and social care.
- Include examples from your own work setting, or from your own research.
- Your work should be referenced using the Harvard system, with in-text citations and a complete reference list.
