The burden of illness associated with for example overweight and obesity, infectious diseases such as Zika virus is of growing concern to the health and social care practitioner. In recognition of these important Contemporary issues to health and social care education, experts in the health and social care sector, including expertise in public health, mental health, disability, social workers, and a variety of other specialities including GP’s, legislators were convened at a recent conference. Task 2: LO2 Understand how issues of public concern related to health and social care are presented in the media

Scenario: What you must do

Zika is a virus that is spread by mosquitoes. A pregnant mother can pass it to her baby during pregnancy or around the time of birth. There have also been reports that the virus has spread through blood transfusions and sexual contact. There have been outbreaks of Zika virus in Africa, Southeast Asia, the Pacific Islands, parts of the Caribbean, and Central and South America. The editors from the health section of the online BBC report are also attending the conference wants you to write an editorial piece with the aim of not creating moral panic in the public using Zika virus or any recent issue of public concern as examples related to health and social care and how it is presented in the media.

In your editorial piece, you are to (2.1) explain ways in which the media may be used to influence the attitudes and behaviour of people in relation to health and social care issues. To achieve M2, complex information has been synthesised using a case study found in the media to explain ways in which the media is used to influence the attitudes and behaviour of people in the case study in relation to health and social care issues.

Task 3: LO3 Be able to carry out research into different perspectives on a specific issue relating to health and social care

Scenario: At the conference, you gave a PPT highlighting how to be able to carry out research into different perspectives on a specific issue relating to health and social care. For that presentation, you are to cover the following areas.

The Independent and The Guardian newspapers are looking for health journalists to write articles about the likely influence contemporary perspectives on health and social care issues have on the development of service. Write a journal article that demonstrates.
