What have you learned through the rough seasons/failures of life?
From the presentation, I have learned that rough seasons and failures are part of life, and one has to go through a hard time at some point in their life. I have learned that during these times, one should maintain a positive mindset. Developing a good mindset can take one through the hardest of times. The same will allow one to avoid pointless sorrows and self-pity. Positive thinking allows one to think critically and devise possible solutions to emerging issues. Extreme pessimism can be detrimental to recovery, especially in times of loss. One should understand that even the bad times end. The idea is to appreciate the fact that, however bad the situation is, nothing lasts forever. However, we have to appreciate that we must do something about bad situations to make them change. Finally, I have learned that for one to overcome a tough time, they have to understand that they have strengths as individuals and that no matter what comes their way, they will always overcome. The Bible can also play a huge role in encouraging one through tough times. Biblical verses such as Jude 1:24, “To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy,” are ideal in helping one overcome challenges (Jude 1:24, King James Version).

What is the difference between a man-centred approach to servant leadership and a God-centered one?
Man-centred leadership approach, man is at the centre of attention. On the other hand, in God-centered leadership, God is prioritized. Man-centred leadership is where the leader does not give attention to God’s teaching and doctrines related to leadership. These are leaders who do not recognize the role of the Biblical scriptures on leadership. A god-centred approach, on the other hand, involves putting God first in everything. It is a leadership approach that aims to follow God’s doctrines and ensure that all that is done is within the precepts of God’s will. God centred-leadership involves seeking rewards from God instead of from man. Rewards that come from a man can only last a while, but God’s reward is everlasting.

What are some of the challenges of practically practising servant leadership?
Servant leadership is a critical, practical, and effective leadership approach. It is based on humility and servitude. However, servant leadership presents a broad range of challenges that can negatively impact its effectiveness and practicality. For example, a lack of trust can hamper servant leadership. For the leader, it is possible not to trust being vulnerable before your subjects. Vulnerability leads to mistrust, and this can be a considerable impediment to practising servant leadership. Secondly, by embracing servant leadership, there is a possibility of promoting artificial harmony instead of having a constructive debate on leadership issues. It is hard for some people to commit to being a servant leaders, and the results are ambiguity and incoherency in leadership. Failure to commit translates to inconsistency, which can be a huge problem to the progress of an organization or a team.
How does a biblical, covenantal perspective inform our understanding of servant leadership?
The Bible is more than relevant to servant leadership. Jesus is an example of a servant leader. Jesus exhibited humility comparable to none, washed the disciples’ feet, and emphasized the need to embrace servant leadership (Bury, 2006). One of the main qualities of a servant leader is integrity, and the Bible emphasizes the need to embrace integrity as a leader. Leadership is not about making our name known; instead, it is about uplifting the name of God.

The Bible emphasizes the need for humility in leadership, and this can be seen in Colossians 3:12: “Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. “From a covenantal perspective, Moses was a servant leader. His leadership is an ideal servant leadership model. Moses demonstrated a deep love for God and other people and sacrificed to have the Israelites released from bondage.
