Assessment Criteria:

To achieve a satisfactory result, your assessor will be looking for your ability to demonstrate the following key skills/tasks/knowledge to an acceptable industry standard:

  • The National Quality Framework
  • The National Quality Standards
  • The relevant approved learning framework
  • United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child
  • National Physical Activity Guidelines for Australians
  • Code of Ethics
  • Basic principles of child physical, social, language and emotional development
  • Policies and procedures for nutrition, health requirements, interactions, behaviour.

Number of Attempts:

You will receive up to two (2) attempts at this assessment task. Should your 1 st attempt be unsatisfactory (U), your teacher will provide feedback and discuss the relevant sections/questions with you and will arrange a due date for the submission of your 2 nd attempt. If your 2 nd submission is unsatisfactory (U), or you fail to submit a 2 nd attempt, you will receive an overall unsatisfactory result for this assessment task. Only one re-assessment attempt may be granted for each assessment task, with the exception of Apprentices or Trainees who are permitted an additional supplementary assessment.

Assessment 1 – Knowledge Questions

CHCECE005 and CHCECE003

  1. List some of the organisational policies and procedures relevant to the physical, emotional and developmental needs of babies, toddlers and older children.
  2. List one of the Quality Areas and a relevant Standard and Element of the National Quality Standard which applies to the physical, emotional and developmental needs of babies, toddlers and older children.
  3. Early childhood education and care services must have a documented food safety program to ensure the risk of spreading infectious diseases through food is reduced.

    Briefly outline the guidelines educators and staff must follow when:
    • Preparing food
    • Heating and cooling food
    • Separating raw and cooked food
    • Preparing bottles
    • Storing bottles
    • Heating bottles.

  4. Outline an Article of the Convention on the Rights of the Child that relates to ensuring children develop physically.
  5. Using the Code of Ethics, briefly outline an educator’s professional responsibility in relation to the physical development of children.
