Formal Literature Review What do High Organization do Different?
Identification of the Leadership Concept
From my learning achieved from the module completion, I have been able to obtain the necessary information and knowledge regarding the area of leadership and its use in real-life managerial situations or circumstances. From the overall learning achieved I have been successful in analyzing that leadership is concerned with the overall practical or the real-time skills and competencies which are seen to be effectively encompassing the ability of organizations or the individuals, towards supporting and leading the organization or groups towards the fulfilment of the goals and objectives that are seen to foster higher business growth, development and sustainability (Schein, 2010). In addition, I have also learnt that the concept of leadership also significantly encompasses the quality that helps in influencing the people or individuals towards facilitation of the attainment of different goals and objectives of the organization for higher market growth and development. In this context, I have also understood and acquired the overall knowledge that leaders must be proficient enough in the development of proper visions along with engaging or motivating the followers towards realizing the attainment of the vision for goal fulfilment.
In respect to the knowledge acquired on leadership through learning, I have also been able to identify and analyze some specific leadership theories or approaches that play a major or significant part. One such theory learnt was the situational leadership theory. This theory specifies that a leader needs to use various styles or approaches of leadership based upon the key requirements and demands of the respective situation at hand. Therefore as per this specific theory, the leaders must be proficient enough in adjusting themselves to the leadership styles or approaches that are needed to be aligned as per the objectives for the attainment of higher success, development and growth. Therefore, situational leadership highlights the fact that leaders must fulfil their responsibility in the context of task analysis that depends upon the overall requirements in forms of guidance and direction, in addition to the overall support and the specific readiness and motivation of the followers towards an exhibition of higher levels of competency and capabilities need to perform highly and fulfil the set tasks, goals or objectives. In this context, as identified from the overall learning the situational leaders are also expected in exhibiting of competencies that includes the aspects of diagnosis, adaptability, communication and advancements (Nahavandi, 2016). Therefore from the learning, I have been successful in attainting the overall knowledge that the flexibility and the simplicity exhibited by the situational leaders can significantly assist in equipping themselves with necessary competencies and tools needed for the purpose of skillfully navigating the specific demands considering the well-diversified workforce in a competitive business and market environment. In addition, as identified from the overall learning, it can also be said that the implementation of situational leadership can also help or facilitate leaders to effectively adjust themselves to the changing scenarios that can help in addressing the specific challenges or difficulties faced by an organization considering their operations and activities in a specific business or market environment. Situational leadership also highlights majorly four leadership approaches that can be utilized by a leader considering the situation faced. As per the situations these styles or approaches of leadership can be termed to be supporting, coaching, directive and delegating. The implementation of such approaches is largely dependent upon the situations faced by a respective leader.
Analysis of the Psychometric Tests and Questionnaires Undertaken
In order to identify my own leadership traits and characteristics that would help me in determining the leadership style or approach suitable for me. In this context, the psychometric tests including the questionnaires have also enabled me to conduct a detailed assessment and analysis of my overall presentation skills and competencies as well as identification of the development needs that is essential for me to grow as a successful leader in the near future, therefore, contributing highly towards myself career growth and development to a larger extent.
Psychometric tests are considered to be the scientific and standardized methods or procedures that can significantly help in the correct and precise evaluation of the behavioural styles and the mental capabilities of an individual. In addition, such tests can also be used for the purpose of effectively evaluating and assessing the suitability of an individual or candidate towards a specific role or responsibility, which are seen to be largely based or dependent upon the overall requirements of the cognitive abilities along with the personality characteristics of a respective individual. In the context of identification of the leadership traits and attributes the use of psychometric tests that includes the questionnaires has helped me in analyzing my personal traits and attributes and how it matches the needed cognitive abilities and personality or traits for the successful functioning of the role and responsibility of a true and good leader (Kline, 2015). Therefore from the information obtained from the respective psychometric tests, I was able to identify my current traits and attributes and how it matches with the different leadership theories, styles or approaches that can help in the achievement of the best and desired performances as a leader. In relation to the psychometric tests, two specific test types were conducted such as general tests and specific tests. Both these tests have been conducted on the basis of specific questionnaires and evaluation of the feedback offered to the questionnaires. These can be explained as below;
General Psychometric Tests
The general psychometric tests that have been undertaken for the purpose of analyzing the leadership trait and style are the aptitude tests, abstract reasoning tests, personality and motivation questionnaire tests and knowledge tests. Now speaking in a broader context, the aptitude tests have helped me to analyze and measure my current ability, knowledge and skills considering the area of leadership that has helped in understanding my ability and intelligence level pertaining to the area of leadership. The use of the abstract reasoning tests has enabled me to analyze or identify my overall ability in comprehending and working with specific information and finding solutions to leadership problems along with analyzing and highlighting my overall conceptual and analytical skills that are needed to be exhibited by a successful leader. On the other hand, the use of the personality questionnaire has enabled me to identify and assess my capability to adjust to the different changing leadership environments. In addition, the use and implementation of the specific motivation questionnaire have also helped in a proper understanding of the overall situations that can motivate me as a leader for improvement of the different working conditions and scenarios that can result in enhanced or improved retention and satisfaction.
Specific Psychometric Tests
In addition to the general psychometric tests, in order to assess my traits, leadership characteristics and attributes I have also been successful in conducting the CTPI-100 test for analysis of my skills, attributes, behaviours and traits considering the aspect or area of leadership. In this context, the implementation of these specific tests has successfully enabled me to test or analyze my knowledge, skills, competencies and behaviours, based upon my overall responses towards four specific areas that include self-management, people management, change management and task management (Crawford, 2010.). Therefore considering the above management areas, the tests have facilitated me to identify my current behaviour, traits and attributes that would be suitable for choosing specific leadership theories, styles and approaches that would significantly help in defining me as a successful leader in the near future.
Analysis of the Class Activities Undertaken
The undertaking of the class activities has also benefitted me to analyze my leadership traits, behaviours and attributes that would help in choosing specific leadership styles for better managerial success in the near future. In this context, I have actively proactively participated in the different classroom activities’ undertaken. These activities include attaining leadership lectures and seminars conducted that helped me to gain or acquire the key knowledge and idea regarding leadership and the ways to successfully lead and motivate a team towards higher success and sustainability. In addition, the overall classroom activities that included mock leadership and demo programs have also enabled me to achieve the idea and concepts relating to leadership. In addition to the classroom activities, I have been also been able to acquire the knowledge of Gibb’s learning cycle which has enabled me to effectively reflect upon my experiences and learning acquired in the context of identification of my own leadership theories, traits and skills that can help me to become a successful leader in the near future.
Identification of the Core Development Areas
The overall learning acquired has also enabled me to carefully identify the core areas or skills and competencies which I must develop for emerging as a successful leader in the near future. In this context, the overall learning and experience achieved have significantly facilitated me to identify and analyze the core areas or skills that require development for better leadership success in the future (Bolton, 2010). These specific areas or skills that require development has been explained in the following table along with the activities that are needed to be undertaken for the development of the skills and competencies;
