Task Four (a)
Context:
In your role as an employee/ trainee/ observer in a health and social care environment you will have now acknowledged that there are specific ways methods and principles that managers use to lead their staff in the setting.
Using your own workplace or a chosen organisation within the sector of the health and social care write a report with a word count of a minimum of 1,500 words, that explains each of the following theories, and how they are put into practice:
- Transactional
- Transformational
- Emotional Intelligence
These theories have been put forward by Fielder, Vroom & Yetton, Mintzberg, Handy and Goleman.
Tips:
To put work for this task together you should first outline the theory before explaining how it is used in a health and social care setting;
You may wish to use www.mindtools.com to help increase your understanding of each of these theories.
Task Four (b)
Context:
For this task, you should first define what a working relationship is. You should use examples from your chosen setting or workplace to do this.
You will then need to analyse, in approximately 1,500 words, how exactly these types of relationships are managed in the setting.
Here are some examples.
You will need to analyse at least four of those listed:
- Influence of management style
- Emotional intelligence
- Organisational structure
- Leadership versus management
- Contingency management (best-fit)
- Role-modelling
- Effective communication
- Team building
- Constructive feedback
- Shared values
- Accountability(monitoring and assessing performance, communicating decisions, disciplinary and grievance procedures)
Tip:
When you analyse your chosen four styles of management, you should use examples from your chosen setting or workplace to help strengthen your ideas.
Task Four (c)
Context:
Using the same list of management styles listed in Task 4 (b); and in a minimum of 1000 words, evaluate how your own development has been influenced by the management approaches that are used in the setting.
You should include the following points in your report:
- Your own attributes; (confidence, skills competencies, knowledge, and understanding)
- Qualifications
- Career development
- Ability to work with change
Tip:
Think about the points below to help you put this piece of work together:
- Consider how well you have progressed and gained confidence in a specific area as a result of how you have been managed;
- Think about any areas where you feel that your needs or ‘voice’ has not been heard or acknowledged and how this may have impacted on your professional growth and self-confidence;
